History of Haddon Summer Music Theatre   The Haddon Summer Music Theatre was founded through the effort of Scott Glading, an English Teacher at Haddon Heights High School and the director of its annual high school musical. As a response to graduating seniors who were despondent on closing night of their last performance as high school students, Mr. Glading approached the Haddon Heights Board of Education in 1987 about funding a summer theater housed at the high school. This proposed program would perform once each summer, utilizing the talents of Heights graduates, currently enrolled students, and those who lived or worked in the town. In the spring of 1988, the Board agreed to funding.   In the summer of 1988, Haddon Summer Music Theatre produced its first musical, The Sound of Music.  In 1991, Haddon Summer Music Theatre  found it necessary to look for another venue to house the summer production and approached the Haddonfield Superintendent of Schools to inquire if Haddonfield Memorial High School might be available. Thus begun a theatrical partnership between Haddonfield and the Haddon Summer Music Theatre.    In 1992, the State of New Jersey cut its funding to the Arts in the schools. This left the organization with no financial backing. Four families who did not want to see the summer theatre die each donated $1000 to front the organization. Haddon Summer Music Theatre incorporated, elected officers and was granted non-profit status by the Federal Government in 1993.   In 1993, HSMT developed theatrical scholarships to be presented annually to graduating seniors from Haddonfield Memorial High School and Haddon Heights High School. Since 1993,  32 scholarships have been awarded to deserving students.   Since our inception in 1988, the members of our audiences have increased beyond the bounds of the local community and have grown to include patrons throughout the Greater Delaware Valley.

Mission of Haddon Summer Music Theatre   Established in 1988, the Haddon Summer Music Theatre has been dedicated to producing the highest caliber of musical theater. Our goals have been, and continue to be: ·   Providing professional quality, yet affordable, musical theater to the residents of the South Jersey, its neighboring communities, and the greater Delaware Valley   ·   Enabling young people to pursue careers in music and theater by awarding Theater Arts Scholarships to graduating high school seniors   ·   Serving as a resource for actors, musicians, and production staff of all ages by providing them an opportunity to be actively involved in the theatre arts   Structure of the Organization   Haddon Summer Music Theatre is classified as a non-profit, tax exempt organization under section 501(a) of the Internal Revenue Code as an organization described in section 501 (c) (3). Funding for the Organization   HSMT is funded primarily through income generated by ticket sales. This income, in turn, is used to cover the total cost of our annual summer musical in all aspects, including staff stipends, costumes, musicians, lighting, set design, sound, advertising, and more.
